Iranian cafes used to numerous and popular but competition from modern joints have left them behind. We-Desi is a casual dining format of those cafes serving Indian food with a twist. The look is monochromatic, reminiscent of the British era in India. From the chequered tabletops to the photographs on the wall, everything is a shade of black, white and grey. There are faded yellow newspapers, lanterns, miniature prints and olden-day sockets.
Working with Grapevine Media, I developed the identity, signage and print materials in a unique mix of contemporary and historic ideas. Research on the lives of royalty from the period of Maharajas proved to be an essential aspect of the identity.
